Activists chain themselves to the front of a popular bar that was once allegedly used to hold and sell enslaved people on July 4, 2020, at Kelly's Westport Inn in Kansas City, Mo.

After the death of George Floyd in 2020, Black Lives Matter activists took to the streets in Kansas City, Mo. to protest against police violence and mass incarceration. For the next three months, I worked as a freelance photographer documenting the demonstrations happening across the city almost everyday. The resulting body of work shows the different types of protests that activists used to spread their message, and the response from the Kansas City Missouri Police Department.
